Tuesday Sep 12, 2017
Tuesday Sep 12, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: My 2013 interview with Colin Duriez on his biography on Lewis.
Colin Duriez is what you might call "an expert to the experts." He is among the top writers/scholars on not only C.S. Lewis, but also J.R.R. Tolkien. Just releasing now is his book C.S. Lewis: A Biography of Friendship. William O'Flaherty spoke with him about this title and why he chose to portray the life of Lewis through his friends.

(Re-Post) Exploring C.S. Lewis Misquotes and Misconceptions - Episode 4
Monday Sep 11, 2017
Monday Sep 11, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: My last new show, the fourth in a series on Lewis Misquotes and Misconceptions about him.
This is the fourth podcast episode in the series on "Misquotes and Misconceptions." Returning guest host for this show is Corey Latta. Previously he helped with the second program and he was also interviewed about a book he wrote entitled C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing (link below). This time he asks William O'Flaherty questions about quotations credited to Lewis that are mostly close to what he did write. These are usually paraphrases of what Lewis wrote. The key words of those sayings are listed below (that also link to an article online) to help you better understand the quote in question.

(Re-Post) C.S. Lewis - A Life (Biography by Dr. Alister McGrath)
Sunday Sep 10, 2017
Sunday Sep 10, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: This interview is from 2013 when several biographies on C.S. Lewis came out. I spoke with Dr. McGrath by phone about what he wrote.
No doubt you have heard about the new biography C.S. Lewis - A Life by Dr. Alister McGrath. Dr. McGrath is a priest ordained in the Church of England and Professor of Theology, Ministry and Education at King's College London. Formerly he was Professor of Historical Theology at Oxford University. I was granted one of the few interviews with him last week on March 20th (2013) just hours before he spoke at Wheaton College.

(Re-Post) CSL - Life, Works and Legacy pt. 2 (Dr. Bruce Edwards)
Saturday Sep 09, 2017
Saturday Sep 09, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: The second of a two-part interview with the late Dr. Bruce Edwards about a four-volume set he edited.
This is the second of a two-part interview that William O’Flaherty had with Dr. Bruce Edwards about C.S. Lewis: Life, Works, and Legacy, a four-volume set of books that came out in 2007. It a title many are unaware of because its main target is libraries. However, there are frequently used copies available from Amazon that are reasonably priced (see link below). In this final chat about this invaluable work, Dr. Edwards focuses on the last two volumes. The third deals with Lewis as “Apologist, Philosopher, and Theologian” and the final book explores Lewis as “Scholar, Teacher, and Public Intellectual.”

(Re-Post) CSL - Life, Works and Legacy pt. 1 (Dr. Bruce Edwards)
Friday Sep 08, 2017
Friday Sep 08, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: One of the last interviews with the late Dr. Bruce Edwards...the first of a two part show on a four-volume set.
Back in 2007 a four-volume set entitled C.S. Lewis: Life, Works, and Legacy was released. Dr. Bruce Edwards edited this ambitious effort. William O’Flaherty caught up with him recently to discuss this reference work that is often overlooked because it is priced for libraries and not the general public. In this podcast Dr. Edwards provides some insight into how this 1,400 page effort came to be, along with giving some highlights of what you will find in volumes one and two. The first book focus on “An Examined Life” and the second details with Lewis as “Fantasist, Mythmaker, and Poet.”

(Re-Post) Douglas Gresham Interview (2013)
Wednesday Sep 06, 2017
Wednesday Sep 06, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: Interview with Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis that was recorded in late 2013.
I'm reposting an interview I did with Douglas Gresham (one of C.S. Lewis's stepsons) in late September, 2013 for three reasons. First, a few months ago I switch where I hosted my podcasts and I hadn't yet posted it there and secondly, today (11/29) is the 116th anniversary of Lewis's birth. Finally, while I later did a post with a transcript of this interview, I felt this would be a good chance to make that available in the same post (see link below). At the time I spoke with Gresham he had made a visit to Asbury University and word of the plans for the next Narnia movie hadn't been announced.

(Re-Post) Bilbo's Journey (Dr. Joseph Pearce) 2016r
Monday Sep 04, 2017
Monday Sep 04, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: Learn more about The Hobbit with Dr. Joseph Pearce with an interview I did back in 2013, but not posted here until late last year.
Here's another show first released in 2013, but not available again until now because I changed where my podcast audio is hosted. It's a book interview about that's mostly indirectly related to Lewis. Dr. Joseph Pearce has written about Lewis, but this conversation focuses on a book he wrote about The Hobbit (a title that Lewis enjoyed greatly). It's called Bilbo's Journey: Discovering the Hidden Meaning of The Hobbit. At the time I first released the interview only the first of three Hobbit movies had been on the big screen. He shares a few thoughts on that debut effort, along with some views about why Lewis is popular fifty years after his death. Dr. Pearce is Writer in Residence and Visiting Fellow at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrmack, New Hampshire and the author of C.S. Lewis and the Catholic Church.

(Re-Post) For the Sake of the Story (Dr. Donald T. Williams) 2016r
Sunday Sep 03, 2017
Sunday Sep 03, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: Here's a talk from a few years about by Dr. Don Williams about deals with what to do with views by Lewis that don't seem to fit traditional Christian beliefs. I was given permissions by Dr. Williams to share it when my show was hosted at another location, but only re-shared it here late last year.
The following is the main part of an inaugural lecture from Dr. Donald T. Williams called "For the Sake of the Story: Doctrine and Discernment in Reading C.S. Lewis." Dr. Williams is a Professor of English and Chair of the Humanities and Natural Sciences Department at Toccoa Falls College in Northeast Georgia. This audio is from a video available online that includes a questions and answers segment not included here. Of special note is a new book by Dr. Williams that expands on many of the ideas presented in this talk. That new book (published December, 2016) is Deeper Magic: The Theology Behind The Writings of C.S.Lewis.
