(Re-Post) Mere Christians (Andrew Lazo)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: An older interview with Andrew Lazo about a book he co-edited.

Mere_Christians_repost_2017_.jpgHere's another interview that was first released back in 2012 and not yet shared again since my audio hosting was moved to Podbean in late 2014. Thus, this is something most of you has likely not heard before now. This podcast is with Andrew Lazo and is about a book he co-edited, MERE CHRISTIANS: Inspiring Stories of Encounters with C. S. Lewis. Andrew has written a variety of articles on Lewis and contributed to the 2015 book, Women and C. S. Lewis. He has also been a guest on my occasional "Essay Chat" podcast series. We took two programs to explore Lewis' essay called "On Stories."

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: Episode six of 200 Seconds in Hell. It's about a secret the devils hope you don't know.

200_Seconds_Ep_6.jpg
What is the "best tool" in the Devil's toolbox? You might be surprised that it is the opposite of what you think it might be! Screwtape reveals the secret outright in the fourth letter, but the method is mentioned either directly or indirectly in 75% of the letters. This sixth episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" points you to the information told to Wormwood to help you overcome the schemes of the devils.

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: The 5th episode of 200 Seconds series to encourage you to read The Screwtape Letters

200_Seconds_Ep_5.jpg

Democracy is a very important word here on Earth and in Hell. So much so, that the devils want to create confusion about what the word actually means. That's why their philological department is hard at work to keep the real meaning out of our minds. When you listen to the fifth episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll learn some of what Screwtape thinks about how the practical meaning of democracy can be twisted.

(Re-Post) The Myth of Love Lecture Series (Andrew Lazo)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: My last new interview...with Andrew Lazo about his project on TILL WE HAVE FACES.

Myth_of_Love_POSTER_Andrew_Lazo_.jpgEven those who enjoy the wide variety of books by C.S. Lewis are sometimes confused when they get to his last published novel, Till We Have Faces. What was he trying to do with the retelling of the story of Cupid and Psyche? How could he completely turn from writing material for Christians to release such a strange tale? Why did consider it his best book? Inklings scholar Andrew Lazo has been studying Till We Have Faces for many years and believes he can help both those who enjoy the book and those who are puzzled by it. This podcast interview details a new lecture series for late 2017 and early 2018 that will be a book in the near future. Learn a few of the insights Lazo has made and how he might be coming to a city near you to speak on the topic.

(Re-Post) 200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis Episode 4

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: The forth episode of my short-term series that encourages you to read The Screwtape Letters.

200_Seconds_Ep_4.jpg
Do words matter? Of course they do! That's why Screwtape tells Wormwood to either suggest more negative sounding terms or expressions that people associate with things they don't like. Words like "complacency," "unselfishness" and "Puritanical" are help for Hell's purposes. In this four episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll be reminded about some of the ways the devils try to twist words to make it a weapon for their gain.

IN THIS REPEAT: A reminder of my 3rd episode of "200 Seconds in Hell" that is about humility.

200_Seconds_Ep_3.jpg
Practicing humility can be a very humbling experience, one that might just lead to pride! At least that's what Wormwood is partly told he should try to make happen with his patient in The Screwtape Letters. In this third episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll be reminded about some of the ways the devils try to twist humility to make it a weapon for their gain.

William O'Flaherty spoke with Dr. Downing recently about how he became involved in the project, along with what types of helps he provides in this version of the 1933 volume. Previously Dr. Downing has been on the show to discuss his books The Most Reluctant Convert and Looking for the King (see below for links).
