(Re-Post) 200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis Episode 6

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: My last new episode (#6) of 200 Seconds in Hell about a secret the devils hope you don't know.

200_Seconds_Ep_6.jpg
What is the "best tool" in the Devil's toolbox? You might be surprised that it is the opposite of what you think it might be! Screwtape reveals the secret outright in the fourth letter, but the method is mentioned either directly or indirectly in 75% of the letters. This sixth episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" points you to the information told to Wormwood to help you overcome the schemes of the devils.

2017 is the 75th anniversary of when The Screwtape Letters was first published. So, why not read it again! And consider getting my enhanced study guide to help you enjoy it even more. Get a free 20 page PDF sample of my book via ScrewtapeCompanion.com.

(Re-Post) Light: C.S. Lewis’s First and Final Short Story (Dr. Charlie Starr)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: An earlier program from 2012 about a lost story that is a different version of one already known.

Light_-_1st_and_Final.jpgThis book interview is from 2012, but it had not yet been featured here since changing the podcast audio hosting. It is a conversation with Dr. Charlie W. Starr and his book Light: C.S. Lewis's First and Final Short Story. It tells the story of how a manuscript surfaced that appeared to be a different version of a short story called "The Man Born Blind." The book reveals the results of his investigation and includes several interpretations of "Light." The interview was recorded at the 2012 C.S. Lewis Colloquium at Taylor University.

(Re-Post) Medieval Wisdom for Modern Christians (Dr. Chris R. Armstrong)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: An interview with Dr. Chris Armstrong about his book Medieval Wisdom for Modern Christians

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the Middle Ages? Maybe it would be better to ask when was the last time you even thought about the Medieval_Wisdom_for_Modern_Christians.jpAges? Probably not too recently. However, Dr. Chris R. Armstrong believes it's very important to consider this period of time. In fact, it's an age that C.S. Lewis was very familiar with and also encouraged others to consider. In Medieval Wisdom for Modern Christians Dr. Armstrong details a variety of areas every Christian should be open to learning about that can enhance one's spiritual growth.

(Re-Post) Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Bruce Edwards

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: Remember the late Dr. Bruce Edwards who died in 2015.

BrucewaswithWilliam.jpg
As this is posted most of you who are familiar with Dr. Bruce Edwards know he died unexpected on October 28, 2015. I learned of the news while attend the C.S. Lewis Foundation's Fall Retreat at Camp Allen. Many attending were close friends (professionally and personally) and so I records some brief thoughts with them. Then I caught up with a couple other people I knew were well acquainted with him to have them share some reflections as well. I'm sure I missed several who knew Bruce and had been on my show previously. Speaking of being on All About Jack, Bruce was a frequent guest and even this year he had been on a couple of two-part episodes (they are listed below).  In additional to the link for this podcast, be sure to listen to the memorial service and the final podcast that Bruce did from his own online show.

(Re-Post) Ruth Pitter Biography (Dr. Don King)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: Dr. Don King talks about his biography on Ruth Pitter, a friend of Lewis.

Hunting_the_Unicorn.jpgThe women surrounding C.S. Lewis is often a mystery to even the serious reader of his works. Apart from Lewis' mother and wife, Ruth Pitter stands as one of the most significant women in his life. You might know she was a poet, but did you know how much she helped Lewis with his poetry? Also, was there more than a friendship interest between her and Lewis? Dr. Don King explores her life in Hunting the Unicorn: A Critical Biography of Ruth Pitter. There has been a recent interest in exploring the females in Lewis' life so it seemed a good time to learn more about her. Dr. Crystal Hurd fills in as guest host to interview Don.

(Re-Post) Highlights Inklings Week in Oxford 2016

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: Excerpts from various talks from the 2016 Inklings Week in Oxford.

Highlights_Inklings_OXFORD_2016.jpg
Most of you are aware that last month (July, 2016) there was an event in England called "An Inklings Week in Oxford." It was hosted by the Inklings Fellowship. There were 10 plenary talks (one hour), five "second breakfast" speakers (thirty minutes) and also each morning during morning worship there was someone sharing to help put the day in focus. Obviously it would be too large of a task to highlight all of that, so what follows is a podcast that shares short excerpts from talks most related to Lewis or his works. As noted in the introduction the purpose of this show is to remind those who attend what it was like and to let others know what they missed so they will consider attending the next one in 2019! All talks shared today were given at St. Giles Church in Oxford.

Heck shares about his new title that is an insightful and easy to follow recount of Lewis' return to the his earlier faith. The book is called From Atheism to Christianity: The Story of C. S. Lewis. (Re-Post) COMPLETE Walter Hooper Interview 2016

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: My interview with Walter Hooper from summer 2016.

Walter_Hooper_COMPLETEjpg.jpg

The following is the complete interview (nearly 60 minutes) with Walter Hooper. It was recording in his home on July 20, 2016. As you likely know, Walter has been the central figure since the death of C.S. Lewis in making sure Lewis' writing that were published in his life were reprinted and also Hooper has edited the majority of material from Lewis that was previously unpublished. His C.S. Lewis - A Companion and Guide gives the best single volume summary of the works of Lewis and key facts about his life.

(Re-Post) Douglas Gresham Interview (2013)

00:0000:00

IN THIS REPEAT: Interview with Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis that was recorded in late 2013.

Gresham2013OFlaherty.jpg

I'm reposting an interview I did with Douglas Gresham (one of C.S. Lewis's stepsons) in late September, 2013 for three reasons. First, a few months ago I switch where I hosted my podcasts and I hadn't yet posted it there and secondly, today (11/29) is the 116th anniversary of Lewis's birth. Finally, while I later did a post with a transcript of this interview, I felt this would be a good chance to make that available in the same post (see link below). At the time I spoke with Gresham he had made a visit to Asbury University and word of the plans for the next Narnia movie hadn't been announced.
