(Re-Post) EC01r - "Sometimes Fairy Stories..." with Dr. Holly Ordway (Essay Chat)
Saturday Feb 16, 2019
Saturday Feb 16, 2019
IN THIS REPEAT: Here's a reminder of my occasional essay chat series with this re-post of the first one I did with Dr. Holly Ordway. Many people overlook the fact that Lewis work many shorter works. His essays are very enjoyable and cover a range of topics.

The following is a repeat of the debut series I've simply called an "essay chat." For those not familiar with it, the purpose of this program is to focus on a single essay (or similar shorter work) by C.S. Lewis and discuss it with another Lewis expert or enthusiast. This first one was done with Dr. Holly Ordway on the essay "Sometimes Fairy Stories Say Best What's to be Said."

(Re-Post) Light: C.S. Lewis's First and Final Short Story (Dr. Charlie Starr)
Thursday Feb 14, 2019
Thursday Feb 14, 2019
IN THIS REPEAT: An earlier program from 2012 about a lost Lewis story that is a different version of one already known.
This book interview is from 2012, but it had not yet been featured here since changing the podcast audio hosting. It is a conversation with Dr. Charlie W. Starr and his book Light: C.S. Lewis's First and Final Short Story. It tells the story of how a manuscript surfaced that appeared to be a different version of a short story called "The Man Born Blind." The book reveals the results of his investigation and includes several interpretations of "Light." The interview was recorded at the 2012 C.S. Lewis Colloquium at Taylor University.

As this podcast is released it's the 75th anniversary of the very first letter from Screwtape. What follows are short reflections from a variety of individuals about the landmark material that was Lewis' first claim to fame. Comments are from Dr. Bruce Edwards, Dr. Jerry Root, Brenton Dickieson, Andrew Lazo, Christin Ditchfield, Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Johnson, Mark Wallace Maguire, Dr. Don King, Dr. Crystal Hurd and Sandy Smith. Follow the links below to learn more about them.

(Re-Post) Writing Tips from Lewis and Tolkien (King and Poe)
Saturday Feb 02, 2019
Saturday Feb 02, 2019
IN THIS REPEAT: A chat with Drs. Don King and Hal Poe on writing.
What can a person learn about how to improve one's writing from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien? That was the subject Dr. Don King and Dr. Hal Poe addressed in a session I moderated to kick off a Creative Writing Festival held for high school students at Montreat College on March 31, 2017. This was held just prior to the start of and apart from the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat. At the last minute it ended up being recorded and the results were better than expected, so I thought I'd share the enjoyable time I had with Don and Hal chatting about Lewis and Tolkien in relation to writing. Note that below is are links to an online list of Lewis' works as well as a handout that Dr. King makes reference to that you might find useful.

(Re-Post) The Collected Poems of C. S. Lewis (Dr. Don King)
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
IN THIS REPEAT:: More from Dr. Don King. This time it's on The Collected Poems of C.S. Lewis.
Some Lewis readers are unaware that he wrote poetry (or at best are uninterested in it). Dr. Don King, editor of The Collected Poems of C.S. Lewis: A Critical Edition, believes such individuals are missing out on not only gaining a better understanding of the author, but they are also depriving themselves of some great writings. William O'Flaherty spoke with him about the scope of this new book (scheduled to released January 7, 2015) that brings together nearly all of the poetry of C.S. Lewis.

(Re-Post) The Faun's Bookshelf (Dr. Charlie Starr)
Wednesday Jan 16, 2019
Wednesday Jan 16, 2019
IN THIS REPEAT: An interview about The Faun's Bookself by Dr. Charlie Starr.. A book that released this year (2018).
The Faun's Bookshelf is an interesting title that explores, as part of the subtitle reveals, "Why Myth Matters." Dr. Charlie Starr, the author, uses books C.S. Lewis mentions on Mr. Tumnus's bookshelf as the framework to examine what myth means and how it teaches us about reality. This interviewed was recorded on the campus of Taylor University the day before the 11th Frances W. Ewbank Colloquium, where he gave one of the keynote talks. Even though Charlie goes into a lot of deal about his book in this interview, you will learn even more about myth by purchasing his book (direct link given below). Speak thanks to Dr. Crystal Hurd who voiced the endorsement given at the start and also an except from Charlie's book.
