Both Sides of the Wardrobe (Rob Fennell)
Monday Mar 14, 2016
Monday Mar 14, 2016
The Narnia stories are easily the most popular writings from C.S. Lewis. He did, of course, release many other works that are also enjoyed. To help others enjoy and/or learn about the variety of books from Lewis Rob Fennell had a conference in Canada in 2013 with various speakers to address "Both Sides of the Wardrobe." This resulted in a book that was released in late 2015 called Both Sides of the Wardrobe. William O'Flaherty recently spoke with him about this title for the All About Jack podcast. Most of the authors will be new to listeners, but Brenton Dickieson, one of them, has been on the show many times.

Here's a reminder of my last new episode:

What follows is a conversation with the other co-author of the work, Mark Neal. This podcast covers more specifically what is in the combined effort from Root and Neal. Detailed examples are given from each of the two major sections of the book in addition to providing further information about the remarkable imagination Lewis had and how you can develop your's better.

There are many ways to learn more about the writings and life of C.S. Lewis and his Inklings friends. The following interview tells about one great way: visit the area where they lived and discuss their writings with those who know them well. Dr. Hal Poe and Dr. Don King join William O'Flaherty to tell about AN INKLINGS WEEK IN OXFORD that is Sunday evening, July 17 - Friday evening, July 22, 2016. Speakers include Colin Duriez, Michael Ward, Don King, Harry Lee (Hal) Poe, Walter Hooper, and Holly Ordway. There is a special discount code mentioned during the podcast, so listen to it to save up to $150 (note: airfare, lodging and meals are extra). Also, there are more details (three additional minutes) about the LOST recording of C.S. Lewis that Hal discovered. Finally, be sure to follow the link below to hear the only surviving recording of Lewis from the BBC series of talk that became Mere Christianity (note: this is NOT the lost recording).

Dr. Jerry Root is a well respected scholar on C.S. Lewis and a much sought after speaker in general. Jerry sat down with William O'Flaherty just before the start of the CSLIS conference (that was held at Grove City this year) to talk about a forthcoming book entitled The Surprising Imagination of C.S. Lewis that is due out in September (2015). Dr. Root is an Associate Professor at Wheaton College and Director of Wheaton Evangelism Initiative, Billy Graham Center for Evangelism.

This is the fifteenth essay chat that is part of an occasional series focusing on the shorter works from C.S. Lewis. It was recorded back in 2012 and hasn't been shared since moving my audio hosting to PodBean.com. This chat explores "Lilies That Fester," an essay best found in The World's Last Night. William O'Flaherty spoke with Allyson Wieland about this piece. Allyson is the creator of CSL Book Club, an online resource for discussion questions for a number of books by C.S. Lewis.

SOME ARE HAVING TROUBLE PLAYING THE FILE. IF YOU DO TRY THIS LINK:
Incredible news of a LOST recording of C.S. Lewis was mentioned as part of an upcoming interview with Dr. Hal Poe about An Inklings Week in Oxford. During the conversation it was revealed that Christianity Today will soon post an article about Hal's discovery of a previously unknown recording C.S. Lewis did before his radio talks on the BBC. When the article for Christianity Today post I'll post a link below. Also, be sure to catch the entire interview with Hal (and guest Dr. Don King) about the retreat in Oxford where you can hear the actual recording that was found. Listen to the portion of the interview about the lost recording in this special advanced excerpt.

(Re-Post) C.S. Lewis vs the New Atheists #1 - Series Overview
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
Tuesday Mar 01, 2016
In 2013 there were many books released about C.S. Lewis. One you might have missed is C.S. Lewis vs the New Atheists. While I did a single interview about this book by Peter S. Williams shortly after its released, I felt the material is so useful that it deserved an entire series of shows. Thus, the following is the first of eight programs devoted to the book. This debut episode provides an overview of the entire book. In addition to William O'Flaherty producing and hosting the show, Peter Byrom joins as co-host for the series.
