The following is a podcast interview with David Payne who has portrayed Lewis on stage for over 20 years. "An Evening with C.S. Lewis," is actually only one of several plays David has produced (follow the link to his main website to learn about the others). David covers Lewis's life in an entertaining way and has done over 1,000 performances of the one-man show.

Brenton Dickieson joins William O’Flaherty for an essay chat on this insightful piece that Wormwood never got to hear. It was first published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1959 (see below for a link to read it online) before being reprinted several times. The best place to get in print is either in The World’s Last Night or some editions of The Screwtape Letters. What can a person learn about how to improve one's writing from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien? That was the subject Dr. Don King and Dr. Hal Poe addressed in a session I moderated to kick off a Creative Writing Festival held for high school students at Montreat College on March 31, 2017. This was held just prior to the start of and apart from the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat. At the last minute it ended up being recorded and the results were better than expected, so I thought I'd share the enjoyable time I had with Don and Hal chatting about Lewis and Tolkien in relation to writing. IN THIS REPEAT: The DVD/Blu-Ray of Tolkien is OUT! Here are some reflections on just the movie release with Diana Glyer and Brenton Dickieson.

In May 2019 a biopic on J.R.R. Tolkien, simply entitled Tolkien was released. While there has been no shortage of opinions on the film, I wanted to add some thoughts on it for those who follow this podcast. Two guests join me to share a hopeful perspective about the movie while acknowledging its shortcomings. They are Dr. Diana Glyer, a respected scholar on Tolkien and Lewis, and Brenton Dickieson who is a Lewis scholar nearing his completion of Ph.D. studies on Lewis.

C.S. Lewis had many friends...the most famous was J.R.R. Tolkien, whom he worked with for many years at Oxford University. Just as with Lewis, there are many misconceptions about Tolkien. One is that he "read very little modern fiction, and took no serious notice of it." Dr. Holly Ordway has studied the issue for many years and discovered Tolkien was much more aware of modern culture and the inspiration for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings was not only medieval. She joined William O'Flaherty for a podcast interview to share her insightful findings. Dr. Lisa Coutras also joined the show to help with co-hosting.

IN THIS REPEAT: There are a lot of biographies on Tolkien. Back in 2014 I shared about a SHORT one that is written by Dr. Devin Brown, author of several popular books on Narnia and Middle Earth.

Dr. Devin Brown is back with another book about C.S. Lewis's (more famous) friend, J.R.R. Tolkien. This one is a brief biography simply called Tolkien. At the time I'm releasing this podcast, the final part of the movie version of The Hobbit will be out in a few weeks. Learn, or be reminded of, the interesting story of how Tolkien went from being "an obscure Oxford Professor" to "become the most beloved author of the century."
