C.S. Lewis at Home (Christian History magazine)
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
The magazine Christian History usually releases four issues a year and it has been a while since they did an entire magazine just on C.S. Lewis. This podcast interview with Dr. Jennifer Woodruff Tait explores their new for 2021"C.S. Lewis at Home." As the title suggests, the focus is on the home life of Lewis, so the spotlight is more on his family; his brother Warnie, his wife, Joy, and his parents. Articles written in this issue include those by Crystal Hurd, Paul E. Michelson, Abigail Santamaria, Harry Lee Poe, Andrew Lazo, and Joe Ricke.

Highlights Inklings Weekend 2021, Part 2 of 2
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
This is the second of a two-part episode featuring highlights from the 2021 Inklings Weekend that was held in Montreat, NC at Montreat College from July 9-11. Previously, two talks given by Dr. Devin Brown were shared. This time highlights from addresses given by Dr. Hal Poe and Dr. Don King are presented. The theme of the weekend was "The Radio Broadcasts at Eighty; A Celebration of Mere Christianity." However, only the first excerpt from Dr. Hal Poe actually related to that theme. His talk was “Mere Christianity as Personal Testimony.” After about the first 15 minutes of his nearly hour-long presentation, is a message from Dr. Don King, who has been working on a biography of Warnie Lewis, C.S. Lewis's brother. You'll hear some of the key things Don learned about Warnie.

(Re-Post) Essay Chat #22 – Psychoanalysis and Literary Criticism (Corey Latta)
Saturday Jul 17, 2021
Saturday Jul 17, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: A recently shared essay chat on the shorter work entitled "Psychoanalysis and Literary Criticism." My guest was Dr. Corey Latta.
- - - -
"Psychoanalysis and Literary Criticism" is an essay by C.S. Lewis that has implications beyond either Freud or Literary Criticism. Thus, even if you would normally not read about either subject, you should find this podcast exploring this shorter work by Lewis interesting. Dr. Corey Latta joined William O'Flaherty to discuss this essay on specialized topics. Dr. Latta has been on the podcast several times and has written a few books, including C. S. Lewis and the Art of Writing from 2016. "Psychoanalysis and Literary Criticism," while published in other places, is best available in the collection Selected Literary Essays. As with other "essay chats," the purpose of focusing on a single essay is to encourage you to read (or re-read) it and other essays by Lewis that are often neglected.

(Re-Post) Joy and Poetic Imagination (Dr. Stephen Thorson)
Monday Jul 05, 2021
Monday Jul 05, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: A show about Lewis and the impact and differences between him and Barfield.
Before Lewis embraced the Christian faith he had a lengthy debate with one of his friends, Owen Barfield about what would be considered involving subtle metaphysical and philosophical distinctions. It became know as the "Great War." These disagreements impacted Lewis a lot, but this topic isn't often explored with much detail in biographies. Joy and Poetic Imagination: Understanding C. S. Lewis's "Great War" with Owen Barfield and its Significance for Lewis's Conversion and Writings is a book by Dr. Stephen Thorson that examines the issue thoroughly. The following podcast is a brief interview with Stephen as well as a short talk he gave at the 2016 Taylor Colloquium.

Wednesday Jun 23, 2021
Wednesday Jun 23, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT - Dr. Hal Poe shares about his bio on the early life of C.S. Lewis in Becoming C.S. Lewis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How well do you know C.S. Lewis? You probably don't know Jack as well as you think, until you know his early life. Or more accurately, nearly all of Lewis' interests and tastes were formed in his first twenty years. That is the new book by Dr. Harry Lee (Hal) Poe, entitled Becoming C.S. Lewis examines these early years and shows how his youth influenced his later life and writings. This podcast interview features Dr. Poe explaining how he came to write this book (the first of three) and why knowing Jack Lewis (his friends called him "Jack") is best understood by exploring his formative years.
Saturday Jun 19, 2021
Saturday Jun 19, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: The Making of C.S. Lewis book interview (pt. 1). Book by Hal Poe.
- - - - - -
Dr. Harry Lee Poe ("Hal" to his friends) is back as a guest on the podcast to tell about his new (for 2021) book, The Making of C.S. Lewis (1918–1945): From Atheist to Apologist. This is the first of a two-part show about that title. Previously, Hal released Becoming C.S. Lewis, a book that covered the first twenty years of his life. The Making of C.S. Lewis explores what was happening in Lewis' life from the end of WWI to the end of WWII. As the subtitle notes, Lewis was an atheist at the start of this period and less than thirty years later was famous for his defense of Christianity. Of course, a lot happened between those years, including Lewis giving up being a poet, the start of his teaching at Oxford, and publishing several fictional works.
