(Re-Post) Joy, part 2 (Abigail Santamaria)
Sunday May 21, 2017
Sunday May 21, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT:
This is the second and final part of an interview with Abigail Santamaria about her debut book; a biography on Joy Davidman simply entitled JOY. Be sure to listen to the first part if you haven't already. There is a link below to help you locate it quickly. In the first part the topics included how Abby became interested in Joy's life and about what the Davidman household was like growing up, as well as her first marriage to Bill Gresham. Today's show will look more at how Joy met Lewis, some factors that led to her divorce and how she ultimately married Lewis twice. While this covers a lot of ground it does not go into how Joy didn't always make the wisest decisions as a Christian, which is in the book.

(Re-post) Joy, part 1 (Abigail Santamaria)
Saturday May 20, 2017
Saturday May 20, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: The first of a two-part interview about the landmark biography on C.S. Lewis' wife, Joy Davidman.
While there have been various books on or related to the life story of Joy Davidman, an in-depth treatment has never been done. That is, until now. Over a dozen years in the making, Abigail Santamaria's debut biography is simply called Joy. To say that Joy Davidman was just the wife of C.S. Lewis is to ignore her own accomplishments as a writer and the influence she had in several books by Lewis. In this first of a two part interview, the topics that William O'Flaherty spoke with the author about include how she became interested in Joy's life and about what the Davidman household was like growing up, as well as her first marriage to Bill Gresham. The next part will look more at how Joy met Lewis, some factors that led to her divorce and how she ultimately married Lewis twice.

(Re-Post) C. S. Lewis and the Art of Writing (Dr. Corey Latta)
Friday May 19, 2017
Friday May 19, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: An episode about writing, a book from Dr. Corey Latta entitled C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing.
You obviously know that C.S. Lewis was a writer, but did you know that he wrote a good deal of advice on writing? That's the focus of this podcast interview about a book called C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing. The author is Dr. Corey Latta and in this book he's broken that advice down into fifty bit-size chapters that also gives some optional exercises to help you put that advice into practice. The book has a biographical tone to it, so even if you are not a writer you can still enjoy it. Plus, some of the tips on writing can be applied to other creative endeavors.

Writing Tips from Lewis and Tolkien (King and Poe)
Thursday May 18, 2017
Thursday May 18, 2017

What can a person learn about how to improve one's writing from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien? That was the subject Dr. Don King and Dr. Hal Poe addressed in a session I moderated to kick off a Creative Writing Festival held for high school students at Montreat College on March 31, 2017. This was held just prior to the start of and apart from the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat. At the last minute it ended up being recorded and the results were better than expected, so I thought I'd share the enjoyable time I had with Don and Hal chatting about Lewis and Tolkien in relation to writing. Note that below is are links to an online list of Lewis' works as well as a handout that Dr. King makes reference to that you might find useful.

(Re-Post) Lewis & Women #4 – Top Three Women
Monday May 15, 2017
Monday May 15, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: This is last of the four shows I first released in early 2014 on the topic of "Lewis and Women" with Dr. Crystal Hurd.

This is the forth and final show that explores how C.S. Lewis viewed women. Some think he either hated females, or at least feared them. Even those who know this isn't true have a hard time explaining why. Dr. Crystal Hurd, who has done a series of blog posts on the topic, is William O'Flaherty's special guest to explore this topic. Gina Dalfonzo, the editor of Breakpoint.org joins in as guest co-host. This last episode examines three women in Lewis's later life that he was closest to: Ruth Pitter, Dorothy Sayers and Joy Davidman.

Thursday May 11, 2017
Thursday May 11, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: Back in early 2014 I began a short series of shows dealing with the topic of "Lewis and Women." The idea for it came from a blog series by Dr. Crystal Hurd. What follows is the first of the podcast shows I did.

This is the first of a four part miniseries exploring how C.S. Lewis viewed women. Did he secretly hate them or at least had a negative view of females in general? Dr. Crystal Hurd, who has done a series of blog posts on the topic, is my special guest. Another female, Gina Dalfonzo, the editor of Breakpoint.org joins in as guest co-host. Today’s podcast presents a general overview by briefly exploring nearly all of the issues related to this subject.

(Re-Post) WRL01 - The Last Battle
Sunday May 07, 2017
Sunday May 07, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: The first official show in the occassional series Why Read C.S. Lewis. This one is on THE LAST BATTLE.
This podcast focuses on The Last Battle and is part of a new series that I "accidentally" began in 2016. It was then that I gathered together a handful of individuals giving a testimony on a particular work by C.S. Lewis. It started with the fact that The Screwtape Letters first came out in weekly installments in 1941 and I wanted to honor this landmark and encourage people to read or re-read that book. Later I realized that it would be fruitful to spotlight EACH of Lewis' works that way. So, I began to record a variety of individuals on a few books that had similar landmark anniversaries last year. This project was delayed and then I realized there was no need to select works based on a particular anniversary of publication.
It may seem odd to begin a spotlight on one of the Narnia books by presenting testimonies on The Last Battle. This title was selected initially because last year was the 60th anniversary of its release. So, I already had enough people recorded to release the show and thought why not go ahead and share it! On the show today (in order of appearance) is: Christin Ditchfield Lazo, Dennis Beets, Gina Dalfonzo, Dr. Holly Ordway and Dr. Michael Ward.

(Re-Post) The Narnia Code Series 03 (Shows 6-7)
Saturday May 06, 2017
Saturday May 06, 2017
IN THIS REPEAT: The third of five shows in a series on The Narnia Code.
This is the third episode in the re-packaged series on The Narnia Code. It combines what was previously the sixth and seventh episodes. Back in 2012 I had the privilege to interview Dr. Michael Ward for a series of thirteen episodes to discuss his book The Narnia Code. With me to help co-host the show was Dr. Holly Ordway. Due to the series being in so many parts I was reluctant to re-post it, but this year is not only the 65th anniversary of the publication of the first Narnia story, but also the 10th anniversary of the first Hollywood version of the Narnia movies. But, as noted, I decided to combine two or more shows for this posting. The podcast today, as noted is the third in the new series, and it covers the sixth and seventh chapters from The Narnia Code; they deal with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair and reveal the specific "code" that Dr. Ward discovered for each book. If you haven't listened to the previous episodes then be sure to follow the links below to give them a listen.
