(Re-Post) Shining Light on Screwtape’s Darkest Secret (William O'Flaherty)
Thursday Apr 28, 2016
Thursday Apr 28, 2016
In this repeat: I share my talk about Screwtape's Secret Weapon based on material from my first book.
I just gave the following talk on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat that was held in Montreat, NC at Montreat College. It was also the public debut of my first book C.S. Lewis Goes to Hell: A Companion and Study Guide to The Screwtape Letters. While I do give a summary of the unique aspects of my book, the main focus of the talk is about the devils' secret weapon that is mentioned in nearly all of the letters. My book just list them, but this presentation provides more details and gives a practical application to one's life. Visit my website to contact me about giving this talk or a three or four part presentation on all of the places this weapon is mentioned or alluded to.

In this repeat: Here's a final reminder about the week long event in Oxford this JULY.
There are many ways to learn more about the writings and life of C.S. Lewis and his Inklings friends. The following interview tells about one great way: visit the area where they lived and discuss their writings with those who know them well. Dr. Hal Poe and Dr. Don King join William O'Flaherty to tell about AN INKLINGS WEEK IN OXFORD that is Sunday evening, July 17 - Friday evening, July 22, 2016. Speakers include Colin Duriez, Michael Ward, Don King, Harry Lee (Hal) Poe, Walter Hooper, and Holly Ordway. There is a special discount code mentioned during the podcast, so listen to it to save up to $150 (note: airfare, lodging and meals are extra). Also, there are more details (three additional minutes) about the LOST recording of C.S. Lewis that Hal discovered. Finally, be sure to follow the link below to hear the only surviving recording of Lewis from the BBC series of talk that became Mere Christianity (note: this is NOT the lost recording).

Sunday Apr 24, 2016
In this repeat: Here's the last new show that was post this past Monday; an essay chat with Dr. Crystal Hurd.

Back in April 2012 I began an occasional series of essay chats. Each of these podcasts examine a single shorter work that C.S. Lewis wrote with the hopes of encourage you to read or re-read it. As "Willing Slaves of the Welfare State" is repeated with this show, I find it hard to believe that I actually did sixteen over a seven month span. Of course, back then my program wasn't very old and this was a fairly easy way to create a new podcast. My guest for this essay chat is a familiar name; Dr. Crystal Hurd has been on the show many times. Crystal is an educator and researcher from Virginia who is currently researching the role of artists as leaders. The essay discussed can most easily be found in God in the Dock.
