(Re-Post) The Myth of Love Lecture Series (Andrew Lazo)
Friday Feb 14, 2020
Friday Feb 14, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: An interview with Andrew Lazo about his project on TILL WE HAVE FACES.
Even those who enjoy the wide variety of books by C.S. Lewis are sometimes confused when they get to his last published novel, Till We Have Faces. What was he trying to do with the retelling of the story of Cupid and Psyche? How could he completely turn from writing material for Christians to release such a strange tale? Why did consider it his best book? Inklings scholar Andrew Lazo has been studying Till We Have Faces for many years and believes he can help both those who enjoy the book and those who are puzzled by it. This podcast interview details a new lecture series for late 2017 and early 2018 that will be a book in the near future. Learn a few of the insights Lazo has made and how he might be coming to a city near you to speak on the topic.

(Re-Post) Another Anniversary Reflections on The Screwtape Letters
Wednesday Feb 12, 2020
Wednesday Feb 12, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: In 2016 I did a couple of shows marking the 75th anniversary of the letters from Screwtape being released weekly before the book came out in 1942. Here's the second of two shows celebrating the landmark material.
Previously I did a podcast featuring a variety of guests reflecting on The Screwtape Letters. I'm doing that again today with six more individuals. The reason for this, in addition to The Screwtape Letters being my favorite book from Lewis, is the fact that it was 75 years ago this month (July) that Lewis wrote the original preface to his landmark work. Follow the link to the previous show to learn more background about the book. Comments today are from Dr. Michael Ward, Dr. Jim Buchholz, Sarah Waters, Rob Fennell, Peter S. Williams, Dr. Don Williams. For those who have websites you can follow the links below to learn more about them.

IN THIS REPEAT: Some reflections on THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS.
As this podcast is released it's the 75th anniversary of the very first letter from Screwtape. Before the book version of The Screwtape Letters was published in 1942, The Guardian (a church publication that is no longer published) released the letters weekly, starting on May 2, 1941. What follows are short reflections from a variety of individuals about the landmark material that was Lewis' first claim to fame. Comments are from Dr. Bruce Edwards, Dr. Jerry Root, Brenton Dickieson, Andrew Lazo, Christin Ditchfield, Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Johnson, Mark Wallace Maguire, Dr. Don King, Dr. Crystal Hurd and Sandy Smith. Follow the links below to learn more about them.

Wednesday Feb 05, 2020
Wednesday Feb 05, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: The third of five shows in a series on The Narnia Code.
This is the third episode in the re-packaged series on The Narnia Code. It combines what was previously the sixth and seventh episodes. Back in 2012 I had the privilege to interview Dr. Michael Ward for a series of thirteen episodes to discuss his book The Narnia Code. With me to help co-host the show was Dr. Holly Ordway. Due to the series being in so many parts I was reluctant to re-post it, but this year is not only the 65th anniversary of the publication of the first Narnia story, but also the 10th anniversary of the first Hollywood version of the Narnia movies. But, as noted, I decided to combine two or more shows for this posting. The podcast today, as noted is the third in the new series, and it covers the sixth and seventh chapters from The Narnia Code; they deal with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair and reveal the specific "code" that Dr. Ward discovered for each book. If you haven't listened to the previous episodes then be sure to follow the links below to give them a listen.

Thursday Jan 30, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: Revisiting the re-release of my Narnia Code series with Dr. Michael Ward; episodes 1-3 in one podcast.
Back in 2012 I had the privilege to interview Dr. Michael Ward for a series of thirteen episodes to discuss his book The Narnia Code. With me to help co-host the show was Dr. Holly Ordway. Due to the length of the series I had hesitated to re-release it even though I change my podcast hosting location. However, because in 2015 it was the 65th anniversary of the publication of the first Narnia story I felt it was a good time; especial when I decided to combine several episodes to make it into a five-part series. What follows is the first three programs where the initial three chapters from the book are explored to set the stage for Dr Ward's discovery.

(Re-Post) C.S. Lewis and His Circle (Roger White)
Monday Jan 27, 2020
Monday Jan 27, 2020
In this repeat: A various authors work with writings from the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society.
It's been years since there has been a book featuring contributions from so many people who knew C.S. Lewis. That's the treat in store for you if you get a copy of C.S. Lewis and His Circle, it's a collection of essays and memories presented at the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society. The group began in 1982 and they have had many speakers who were personal friends with Lewis. I recently chatted with Roger White, one of the editors, about this collection that is new for 2015. The addresses are arranged into two main sections: Essays and Memoirs. The Essays section is divided further into “Philosophy and Theology” and “Literature.” And the Memoirs are subdivided into ones about Lewis and then material that is more about his Inklings friends.

(Re-Post) Writing Tips from Lewis and Tolkien (King and Poe)
Friday Jan 24, 2020
Friday Jan 24, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: A chat with Drs. Don King and Hal Poe on writing.

What can a person learn about how to improve one's writing from C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien? That was the subject Dr. Don King and Dr. Hal Poe addressed in a session I moderated to kick off a Creative Writing Festival held for high school students at Montreat College on March 31, 2017. This was held just prior to the start of and apart from the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat. At the last minute it ended up being recorded and the results were better than expected, so I thought I'd share the enjoyable time I had with Don and Hal chatting about Lewis and Tolkien in relation to writing. Note that below is are links to an online list of Lewis' works as well as a handout that Dr. King makes reference to that you might find useful.

(Re-Post) Keynote Highlights Taylor Colloquium 2016
Thursday Jan 23, 2020
Thursday Jan 23, 2020
IN THIS REPEAT: From the 2016 event at Taylor University ...parts of the keynote talks from Taylor 2016 Colloquium.
Here's another podcast featuring content from the recent 2016 Taylor Colloquium. This time it's highlights from each of the three keynote addresses. That is, about fifteen minutes of the talks are provided in this show. You'll hear Diana Glyer first as she talks about the process of writing and how Lewis and Tolkien often differed. Next is Sornia Higgins' presentation on the life of Charles Williams and finally, the last third of this podcast comes from Colin Duriez's speech on the critical friendship of Lewis and Owen Barfield. Please note that the last talk by Colin is more difficult to understand, as the place it was recorded in was different than the others and it turned out worse than expected. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What follows is the second and final part of the panel discussion that was originally recorded as part of the Lewis and Friends Colloquium held at Taylor University (Upland IN) May 31 – June 3 2018. The Biennial colloquium attracted over 150 participants for keynote lectures, paper presentations, workshops, round-table discussions, and creative presentations on the theme “The Faithful Imagination.” Joe Ricke moderated the session with these keynote speakers: Stephen Prickett, Crystal Downing, Joe Christopher, Crystal Hurd, and Charlie Starr. The remaining questions from Joe Ricke are shared, along with three questions that came from the audience. ALSO, at the end of this podcast, I share some audio from a special session that discussed an unpublished story from C.S. Lewis entitled "The Quest for Belharis."
