Back in 2012 I had the privilege to interview Dr. Michael Ward for a series of thirteen episodes to discuss his book The Narnia Code. With me to help co-host the show was Dr. Holly Ordway. Due to the series being in so many parts I was reluctant to re-post it, but this year (2015) is not only the 65th anniversary of the publication of the first Narnia story, but also the 10th anniversary of the first Hollywood version of the Narnia movies. But, as noted, I decided to combine two or more shows for this posting. The podcast today, as noted is the second in the new series, and it covers the fourth and fifth chapters from The Narnia Code; they deal with the first two published Narnia books and reveal the specific "code" that Dr. Ward discovered. However, because in 2015 it was the 65th anniversary of the publication of the first Narnia story I felt it was a good time; especial when I decided to combine several episodes to make it into a five-part series. Last_Battle_three_covers_.jpgThis podcast focuses on The Last Battle and is part of a new series that I "accidentally" began in 2016. It was then that I gathered together a handful of individuals giving a testimony on a particular work by C.S. Lewis. It started with the fact that The Screwtape Letters first came out in weekly installments in 1941 and I wanted to honor this landmark and encourage people to read or re-read that book. Later I realized that it would be fruitful to spotlight EACH of Lewis' works that way. So, I began to record a variety of individuals on a few books that had similar landmark anniversaries last year. This project was delayed and then I realized there was no need to select works based on a particular anniversary of publication.

It may seem odd to begin a spotlight on one of the Narnia books by presenting testimonies on The Last Battle. This title was selected initially because last year was the 60th anniversary of its release. So, I already had enough people recorded to release the show and thought why not go ahead and share it! On the show today (in order of appearance) is: Christin Ditchfield Lazo, Dennis Beets, Gina Dalfonzo, Dr. Holly Ordway and Dr. Michael Ward.

The subject obviously deals with Narnia, but it looks at it from the standpoint of Christian discipleship. Joe is from Bethlehem College and Seminary and was one of the speakers at the recent Desiring God conference on C.S. Lewis. Starr and his book Light: C.S. Lewis's First and Final Short Story. It tells the story of how a manuscript surfaced that appeared to be a different version of a short story called "The Man Born Blind." The book reveals the results of his investigation and includes several interpretations of "Light." The interview was recorded at the 2012 C.S. Lewis Colloquium at Taylor University.

As this is posted most of you who are familiar with Dr. Bruce Edwards know he died unexpected on October 28, 2015. I learned of the news while attend the C.S. Lewis Foundation's Fall Retreat at Camp Allen. Many attending were close friends (professionally and personally) and so I records some brief thoughts with them. Then I caught up with a couple other people I knew were well acquainted with him to have them share some reflections as well. I'm sure I missed several who knew Bruce and had been on my show previously. Speaking of being on All About Jack, Bruce was a frequent guest and even this year he had been on a couple of two-part episodes (they are listed below).  In additional to the link for this podcast, be sure to listen to the memorial service and the final podcast that Bruce did from his own online show.

Also, was there more than a friendship interest between her and Lewis? Dr. Don King explores her life in Hunting the Unicorn: A Critical Biography of Ruth Pitter. There has been a recent interest in exploring the females in Lewis' life so it seemed a good time to learn more about her. Dr. Crystal Hurd fills in as guest host to interview Don.

Most of you are aware that last month (July, 2016) there was an event in England called "An Inklings Week in Oxford." It was hosted by the Inklings Fellowship. There were 10 plenary talks (one hour), five "second breakfast" speakers (thirty minutes) and also each morning during morning worship there was someone sharing to help put the day in focus. Obviously it would be too large of a task to highlight all of that, so what follows is a podcast that shares short excerpts from talks most related to Lewis or his works. As noted in the introduction the purpose of this show is to remind those who attend what it was like and to let others know what they missed so they will consider attending the next one in 2019! All talks shared today were given at St. Giles Church in Oxford.

The following is the complete interview (nearly 60 minutes) with Walter Hooper. It was recording in his home on July 20, 2016. As you likely know, Walter has been the central figure since the death of C.S. Lewis in making sure Lewis' writing that were published in his life were reprinted and also Hooper has edited the majority of material from Lewis that was previously unpublished. His C.S. Lewis - A Companion and Guide gives the best single volume summary of the works of Lewis and key facts about his life.
