(Re-Post) Highlights Inklings Weekend 2016
Saturday Jun 11, 2016
Saturday Jun 11, 2016
There were three other great talks given as part of the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat that was held in Montreat, NC at Montreat College. The following is a show featuring excepts from each of the talks given by Don King, Dennis Beets and Hal Poe (in that order). Only about fifteen minutes of each presentation is shared. The theme of the retreat was "The Devil and C.S. Lewis." With just a musical transition between each, you will hear Don King dealing with A Preface to Paradise Lost, then highlights from Dennis Beets on Perelandra is next, and finally a portion of Hal Poe's talk about The Great Divorce.

(Re-Post) What Lewis NEVER Wrote (with William O'Flaherty)
Friday Jun 10, 2016
Friday Jun 10, 2016
In this repeat: One of the most popular shows so far this year and it was actually first released in 2014!

In this show I'm sharing a 20 minute academic paper I presented at Taylor University that was part of the 9th Frances White Ewbank Colloquium on C.S. Lewis & Friends and given on Friday, May 30, 2014. The presentation I did was on quotations falsely attributed to Lewis. It was called "What Lewis NEVER Wrote." Finally, when recording this talk I neglected to consider the fact that when I was advancing the PowerPoint presentation my recording device was too close to the computer...so you will unfortunately hear a lot of annoying clicks that I was unable to edit out of the audio. You can obtain the handout by the link below or scroll down to see the text.

(Re-Post) Bandersnatch (Diana Glyer)
Saturday Jun 04, 2016
Saturday Jun 04, 2016
2015 has seen the release of several books on, or related to, the Inklings. Are you ready for the most unique among them? Bandersnatch: C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings is a forthcoming title (at the time of this post) due out by the end of November. William O'Flaherty caught up with Dr. Diana Glyer in late March at the annual CSLIS conference and chatted with her about the book. It's an adaptation of her previous book about the Inklings, but this one focuses on the creative and collaborative process among the friends and challenges all to become better writers. The book is complemented with original illustrations by James Owen. It was hoped to released this interview months ago, but only recently did the book become available for pre-order; so follow the link below to make sure you get it as soon as it is released!

(Re-Post) Shining Light on Screwtape’s Darkest Secret (William O'Flaherty)
Thursday Jun 02, 2016
Thursday Jun 02, 2016
I just gave the following talk on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Inklings Fellowship Weekend Retreat that was held in Montreat, NC at Montreat College. It was also the public debut of my first book C.S. Lewis Goes to Hell: A Companion and Study Guide to The Screwtape Letters. While I do give a summary of the unique aspects of my book, the main focus of the talk is about the devils' secret weapon that is mentioned in nearly all of the letters. My book just list them, but this presentation provides more details and gives a practical application to one's life. Visit my website to contact me about giving this talk or a three or four part presentation on all of the places this weapon is mentioned or alluded to.

Sunday May 29, 2016
This week is the final "catch-up" of a previous essay chat that hadn't yet been re-released since changing podcast hosting to Podbean in late 2014. In the early 1950's Lewis began releasing a series of books that he is most associated with now. Lewis gave a talk in 1952 when less than half of his Narnia stories were published. The name of the essay version is "On Three Ways of Writing for Children." Brenton Dickieson, a frequent podcast guest explores this shorter work with host William O'Flaherty. The best place to find the article version is in a collection called On Stories.
