Dr. Michael Ward's name was virtually unknown ten years ago. Today he's considered one of the top C.S. Lewis scholars and that's because of his landmark work Planet Narnia and the sequel that adapts that material, The Narnia Code. This latter book was actually first a TV special on the BBC before coming out on DVD. William O'Flaherty spoke with Dr. Ward in 2012 about all this, focusing mostly on the book version of The Narnia Code. Since then Michael has been on the show several times. Hear the difference between these works and about his favorite works from Lewis.

SilverChairMovieComing.jpgBack in late 2013 it was officially announced that The Silver Chair would be the next book made in the series of Narnia movies. Around the time I had been producing a special series of podcasts with the help of Paul Martin from NarniaFans.com that promoted the reading of the Narnia books. As a result I gather him and several Lewis scholars together to discuss this news. Since that time not much progress has been made on the movie, other than a recent video from Douglas Gresham stating the script is near completion. This lead me to realized that much of what was said by my guests in October 2013 is still relevant. Those guests were Drs. Bruce Edwards, Charlie Starr, Crystal Hurd and Devin Brown, along with Paul Martin.

Few people know that he taught Philosophy before joining the English faculty at Oxford University. Dr. Adam Barkman is very much aware of this and he explores this fact and more in C.S. Lewis & Philosophy as a Way of Life. Dr. Barkman is the Associate Professor Of Philosophy at Redeemer College University in Ontario, Canada. His book is a complete look at the philosophical development of  Lewis and the various views he held within specific areas of philosophy.

The C.S. Lewis Foundation has hosted a retreat at Camp Allen in Texas nearly every year for the last dozen years. For 2015 they will have it October 30th - November 1st. William O'Flaherty caught up with Steven Elmore from the organization to learn more about it. The theme for the retreat is "Of This & Other Worlds: C.S. Lewis & the Call of Deep Heaven."

BandersnatchChapter8.jpg2015 has seen the release of several books on, or related to, the Inklings. Are you ready for the most unique among them? Bandersnatch: C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings is a forthcoming title (at the time of this post) due out by the end of November. William O'Flaherty caught up with Dr. Diana Glyer in late March at the annual CSLIS conference and chatted with her about the book. It's an adaptation of her previous book about the Inklings, but this one focuses on the creative and collaborative process among the friends and challenges all to become better writers. The book is complemented with original illustrations by James Owen. It was hoped to released this interview months ago, but only recently did the book become available for pre-order; so follow the link below to make sure you get it as soon as it is released!

LewisandHisCircleWhite.jpgIt's been years since there has been a book featuring contributions from so many people who knew C.S. Lewis. That's the treat in store for you if you get a copy of C.S. Lewis and His Circle, it's a collection of essays and memories presented at the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society. The group began in 1982 and they have had many speakers who were personal friends with Lewis.  I recently chatted with Roger White, one of the editors, about this collection that is new for 2015. The addresses are arranged into two main sections: Essays and Memoirs. The Essays section is divided further into “Philosophy and Theology” and “Literature.” And the Memoirs are subdivided into ones about Lewis and then material that is more about his Inklings friends.

Max McLean's stage production of The Screwtape Letters has been a hit in major cities across the United States. The play features Screwtape (frequently performed by McLean) and his assistant, Toadpipe in a witty adaptation of the book. William O'Flaherty spoke with him back in 2013 about this work and related matters, including the stage version of The Great Divorce that began touring since the original posting of this interview. C. S. Lewis's List (David Werther)

Lewis was influenced by many people and also by books from various authors. Late in his life he was asked "What books did most to shape your vocational attitude and your philosophy of life?" His answer to this was published in the June 6, 1962 issue of The Christian Century. While it could be debatable to call this his all-time top ten, it is interesting to consider them. In fact, that's what C.S. Lewis's List does, it examines each of the ten books. This title is the result of a conference held in 2012 where ten different speakers spoke on one of the books in Lewis's list. Editors David and Susan Werther took the content and worked with the authors to create the resulting book. Many of the contributors have been a guest on All About Jack before and are noted below. William O'Flaherty spoke with David Werther recently to discuss this book that is new for 2015.
