(Re-Post) C.S. Lewis - A Life (Biography by Dr. Alister McGrath)
Saturday Mar 27, 2021
Saturday Mar 27, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: This interview is from 2013 when several biographies on C.S. Lewis came out. I spoke with Dr. McGrath by phone about what he wrote.

No doubt you have heard about the new biography C.S. Lewis - A Life by Dr. Alister McGrath. Dr. McGrath is a priest ordained in the Church of England and Professor of Theology, Ministry and Education at King's College London. Formerly he was Professor of Historical Theology at Oxford University. I was granted one of the few interviews with him last week on March 20th (2013) just hours before he spoke at Wheaton College.

(Re-Post) 200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis Episode 5
Friday Mar 26, 2021
Friday Mar 26, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: The 5th episode of 200 Seconds series to encourage you to read The Screwtape Letters.
Democracy is a very important word here on Earth and in Hell. So much so, that the devils want to create confusion about what the word actually means. That's why their philological department is hard at work to keep the real meaning out of our minds. When you listen to the fifth episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll learn some of what Screwtape thinks about how the practical meaning of democracy can be twisted.
2017 is the 75th anniversary of when The Screwtape Letters was first published. So, why not read it again! And consider getting my enhanced study guide to help you enjoy it even more. Get a free 20 page PDF sample of my book via ScrewtapeCompanion.com.

Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: The forth episode of my short-term series that encourages you to read The Screwtape Letters.
Do words matter? Of course they do! That's why Screwtape tells Wormwood to either suggest more negative sounding terms or expressions that people associate with things they don't like. Words like "complacency," "unselfishness" and "Puritanical" are help for Hell's purposes. In this four episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll be reminded about some of the ways the devils try to twist words to make it a weapon for their gain.

IN THIS REPEAT: Learning about Brian William's book C. S. Lewis: Pre-Evangelism for a Post-Christian World.
- - - - - -
Few would deny that C.S. Lewis was a great writer, or that he helped people understand the Christian faith. However, not everyone realizes how his fictional works can help lay a foundation for those who are not Christian to be more open to the faith. Learn more about this in a podcast interview with Dr. Brian M. Williams and his new book C. S. Lewis: Pre-Evangelism for a Post-Christian World. After providing a foundational overview of the life of C.S. Lewis, Williams unfolds what Lewis believed about the nature of reality and his perspective of human imagination. Then he builds on this to explain Lewis's pre-evangelism strategy when creating fictional tales about Narnia and other stories.

Friday Mar 19, 2021
Friday Mar 19, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: A reminder of my 3rd episode of "200 Seconds in Hell" that is about humility.
Practicing humility can be a very humbling experience, one that might just lead to pride! At least that's what Wormwood is partly told he should try to make happen with his patient in The Screwtape Letters. In this third episode of "200 Seconds in Hell with C.S. Lewis" you'll be reminded about some of the ways the devils try to twist humility to make it a weapon for their gain.

(Re-Post) Tolkien’s Modern Reading (Holly Ordway)
Thursday Mar 11, 2021
Thursday Mar 11, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: Learn about Holly Ordway's 2021 book Tolkien's Modern Reading with co-host Lisa Coutras.
- - - -
C.S. Lewis had many friends...the most famous was J.R.R. Tolkien, whom he worked with for many years at Oxford University. Just as with Lewis, there are many misconceptions about Tolkien. One is that he "read very little modern fiction, and took no serious notice of it." Dr. Holly Ordway has studied the issue for many years and discovered Tolkien was much more aware of modern culture and the inspiration for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings was not only medieval. She joined William O'Flaherty for a podcast interview to share her insightful findings. Dr. Lisa Coutras also joined the show to help with co-hosting.

(Re-Post) Essay Chat #21 - Learning in War-Time (Alan Snyder)
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: Here's the most recent essay chat..."Learning in War-Time" with Dr. Alan Snyder
"Learning in War-Time" is an essay by C.S. Lewis that has application beyond its original context. This is why it was selected for my occasional podcast series focusing on a single shorter work by him. Dr. K. Alan Snyder joined William O'Flaherty to discuss this insightful essay. Dr. Snyder is a historian and has written a variety of books in that realm, in addition to the 2016 title, America Discovers C. S. Lewis. "Learning in War-Time" was actually the first sermon by Lewis and was given before he was well-known. Today it is best found in the collection The Weight of Glory. As with other "essay chats," the purpose of focusing on a single essay is to encourage you to read (or re-read) it and other essays by Lewis that are often neglected.

(Re-Post) CSL - Life, Works and Legacy pt. 2 (Dr. Bruce Edwards)
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
IN THIS REPEAT: The second of a two-part interview with the late Dr. Bruce Edwards about a four-volume set he edited.
This is the second of a two-part interview that William O’Flaherty had with Dr. Bruce Edwards about C.S. Lewis: Life, Works, and Legacy, a four-volume set of books that came out in 2007. It a title many are unaware of because its main target is libraries. However, there are frequently used copies available from Amazon that are reasonably priced (see link below). In this final chat about this invaluable work, Dr. Edwards focuses on the last two volumes. The third deals with Lewis as “Apologist, Philosopher, and Theologian” and the final book explores Lewis as “Scholar, Teacher, and Public Intellectual.”
